Serie A: The Player Stats Certainly Don’t Lie!

With a third Serie A title in six seasons, Cristian Chivu’s Inter Milan dominated domestic football in Italy, a solid response to Napoli’s success last season and their own humiliation in the Champions League final.

This season I Partenopei and AC Milan both threatened at the top at times but Inter won the Scudetto with some degree of comfort in the end, building up an 11 point gap to runners up Napoli, with AC Milan once again missed out on Champions League football, finishing fifth, while AS Roma, under Gian Piero Gasperini, and the insurgents of Como took third and fourth place.

I Nerazzurri were relentless, playing as a well-oiled unit of men, willing to run through a wall for each other and when you look at our SBOTOP review of the Serie A 2025/26 player statistics, you will see that Inter had the men who were the best in their field.

Lautaro Martinez: Inter Milan

Capocannoniere winner with 17 goals from 30 games, the Inter Milan captain led from the front again, scoring the goals at the times most needed. A quick, agile and powerful player, Martinez started his career as a defender and he still puts in the work rate in defensive situations. He made six assists as well and linked well with Marcus Thuram who scored 13 goals and made six assists.

Martinez’ goal scoring record is superb in Italy and for his nation Argentina. With 132 goals in 267 games for I Nerazzurri and 36 in 75 games for the World Champions he has a one in two ratio at the very highest level, and he is sure to star at the upcoming World Cup in America where Martinez, Messi and co will try to defend their title.

One player whose career skyrocketed over the past few months is AS Roma’s Donyell Malen, who scored 14 goals in 18 games  for I Giallorossi as they stormed into the top three. After a disappointing spell at Aston Villa, the 27 year old found a home on loan at Roma and he has quickly become a fans favourite, earning a permanent deal to 2030 and a place in the Netherlands World Cup squad.

Elsewhere, Cesc Fabregas’ Como put in a stunning set of Serie A 2026 results to nudge out AC Milan and Juventus to nick the final top four place. And while Argentine attacking midfielder Nico Paz is their most recognisable star, it was Greek striker Tasos Douvikas who helped Como defy the Serie A 2026 betting odds as he fired home an impressive 14 goals.

Federico Dimarco: Inter Milan

Federico Dimarco during the Champions League match between Borussia Dortmund and Inter Milan

A serious candidate for Player of the Season is Inter’s flying wingback Federico Dimarco who broke the record for the highest number of assists in one season. On April 26th he made it 17 for the campaign in a 2-2 draw away to Torino, beating the tally of Papu Gomez in the 2019/20 season. Also scoring seven goals Dimarco must be one of the most productive wingbacks in world football, as a left footed defender who usually plays on the left flank but can switch to the right, when he can cut in and unleash a powerful shot. Known for his electric pace and tireless running he helps I Nerazzurri up the pace of a game when needed and Dimarco has a sublime delivery from set pieces. And, with the Azzurri once again missing out on the World Cup finals, fans will be deprived of Dimarco’s style and panache, along with that of his clubmate Nicola Barella, who also weighed in with eight assists this term.

Elsewhere, Jesus Rodriguez of Como made nine assists, as did Sassuolo’s winger Armand Lauriente who also scored seven goals for I Neroverdi.

Jean Butez: Como

With the best defence in the Italian top flight, Como were superb at either end of the pitch and keeper Butez managed to keep Inter Milan out of the golden glove race. With 19 clean sheets Butez was responsible for some vital and narrow wins and, at 30 years of age, as a goalkeeper he has his best years ahead of him. Born in Lille in northern France, Butez represented his home club where he played until his transfer to Antwerp in 2020. He contributed to his club’s treble winning season in 2023, making 27 clean sheets to earn accolades in the Belgian league.

Roma’s Serbian stopper Mile Svilar pushed Butez the hardest with 18 assists while Inter Milan’s Yann Sommer completed a trio of top four club keepers with 16 clean sheets.

In our top performers there’s not a Napoli player in sight as Antonio Conte’s team struggled to emulate their 2024/25 success, and were unlucky to see summer signing Kevin De Bruyne sidelined, otherwise Dimarco may have had a run for his money. And no Milan or Juventus players either…
