The excitement is already building for the 2025 Formula 1 season, especially for Lewis Hamilton, as he embarks on a new chapter of his professional career with his latest team, Ferrari. The seven-time world champion caught everyone by surprise when he announced he’d leave the Silver Arrows for the Prancing Horse last season, and here we are in his first few weeks as a bona fide Ferrarista.
Elsewhere, Aston Martin are gearing up for the new campaign by reshuffling their ranks, hoping that such tweaks will improve their Formula 1 2025 odds after they struggled mightily in last year’s constructors battle. Franco Colapinto, a surprise package last season, deservedly found a new home after Williams unceremoniously dropped him in favour of Carlos Sainz Jr.

Hamilton shares first message to Ferrari fans
Lewis Hamilton went viral on social media at the start of 2025 when he posted a throwback picture of himself wearing a red helmet during his karting days. After making the move to switch to Ferrari, the 40-year-old driver also updated his LinkedIn profile.
“I could not be more excited for the year ahead. Moving to Scuderia Ferrari, there’s a lot to reflect on. To anyone considering their next move in 2025: embrace the change. Whether you’re switching industries, learning a new skill, or even just taking on new challenges, remember that reinvention is powerful. Your next opportunity is always within reach,” Hamilton wrote.
“Here’s to 2025—a year of embracing new opportunities, staying hungry, and driving forward with purpose. Let’s make it one to remember. Andiamo. #newjob,” he concluded.
Lewis Hamilton hasn’t been his usual otherworldly self during his last few years with Mercedes. Since losing the drivers’ championship to Max Verstappen in 2021, he has never finished higher than P3 on the grid. Many question whether Ferrari can bring back the Hamilton of old, but team principal Fred Vasseur is confident they can do it.
The drivers’ partnership between Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc is a key storyline to watch this upcoming season. The Tifosi hope it’ll work since they’re starved of a world title for almost two decades.
Colapinto finds news team after Williams release
Franco Colapinto will join Alpine as their reserve driver in 2025 after leaving Williams during the holidays. The 21-year-old driver will be the primary backup of Jack Doohan and Pierre Gasly.
“I am super excited to have the opportunity to join BWT Alpine Formula One Team. First of all, I want to say thank you to Williams for all their support from the moment I joined the Academy until the last race in Abu Dhabi. They turned my dream of racing in Formula One into reality, and I will always be grateful for that,” Colapinto said in a statement.
“Now, it is time for a new chapter, and to take on this challenge with BWT Alpine Formula One Team is truly an honour. I cannot wait to get started and see where this journey takes us,” he added.
The Argentine international burst onto the scene last year when Williams called him up to replace the axed Logan Sargeant during the Italian Grand Prix weekend. Franco Colapinto looked immediately at home in Formula 1 machinery, reaching Q3 and scoring points in Azerbaijan (P8) and the United States (P10) to draw plenty of praise from his colleagues.
He was linked with rival teams following his initial performances, but none of them materialised. To make matters worse, Colapinto lost his seat to Carlos Sainz Jr., who just left Ferrari. Colapinto will get to prove his worth at Alpine, especially if either Doohan or Gasly messes up.
Aston Martin reshuffle their front office
Aston Martin recently announced that Andy Cowell will be the CEO and team principal for the 2025 campaign. As a result, Mike Krack (the man Cowell replaces) will assume the role of Chief Trackside Officer as part of the reorganisational structure.
Andy Cowell was a key cog in Mercedes’ dominance during the 2010s, serving as the team’s Engineering Director when Formula 1 introduced the turbo-hybrid regulations in 2014. The 55-year-old engineer was also responsible for recruiting Adrian Newey (arguably the greatest Formula 1 engineer ever) to their ranks.
Cowell will be tasked with turning Aston Martin into a legitimate contender, with Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll as their drivers. Aston Martin finished P5 in the constructors’ championship last season, mainly because of Alonso.
