Liverpool vs Fulham
Marco Silva’s Fulham heads North on Saturday to take on Arne Slot’s Liverpool, at a precarious time for the Reds and their manager.
Liverpool have just lost three matches on the bounce, across three competitions. Since the Cottagers beat Burnley last time out, Liverpool have been hammered by Manchester City in the FA Cup and then beaten comfortably by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
The Reds come into this game in fifth place in the Premier League table, while the Cottagers are ninth, and just five points behind their hosts, and that makes Premier League: Liverpool vs Fulham a really tasty prospect.
Talking Points
Liverpool are glad to return to Anfield
With just two wins from their last eight games, in all competitions, and four victories in 13 Premier League outings, Liverpool’s early mid-season optimism has all but disappeared, and the Reds have suffered a bruising couple of weeks on their travels. Last time out in the league, before the international break, Liverpool faced Brighton and they couldn’t have had a worse send-off as a Danny Welbeck double gave the Seagulls a win.
On their return to action, Slot’s men were totally humiliated at the Etihad Stadium by Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter finals as the Sky Blues racked up four unanswered goals before the hour; and that battering clearly had an effect when Liverpool headed to Paris. Slot said his team was in survival mode at the Parc des Princes and the statistics were damning as the Parisians rained 18 shots down on the Liverpool goal and six on target, while Liverpool could only muster three, with none of those troubling Matvey Safanov in PSG’s goal.

So the ‘Welcome to Anfield’ sign will be quite a comfort to the Liverpool players as they try to get their campaign back on track. Five Premier League teams will qualify for the Champions League, and maybe more, should Aston Villa win the Europa League and finish outside the top five; but the Reds are nowhere near comfortable with the likes of Fulham biting at their heels.
Whether Liverpool make it or not, their Egyptian King Mo Salah won’t be with them in Europe next term as he has already confirmed he is on his way. And that will be a sad day for Liverpool fans as their team ranks 16th in the league for shot conversion and Hugo Ekitike is alone in scoring double figures, currently on 11.
Fulham’s European target is clearly in view
Silva’s side have struggled for consistency at times this season but they may just be clicking at the right time, picking up ten points from their last five games; and that run has put them in the midst of the race for Europe. The Cottagers went into the break with a 3-1 victory over Burnley, coming from behind after Zian Fleming had given the Clarets a lead on the hour.
Josh King scored one and made an assist, while Harry Wilson scored his tenth goal of the campaign, and the Welsh wizard has also made six assists, and veteran striker Raul Jimenez rounded off a good day with an injury-time penalty. Those three will more than likely lead the Fulham attack, with Oscar Bobb pushing for a start too. With a midfield pair of Sander Berge and Alex Iwobi and flying wingback Antonee Robinson back to full fitness the Cottagers’ creative unit has plenty of firepower.
History
The Reds have bossed the head-to-head Liverpool vs Fulham results but the relationship hasn’t been entirely one-sided, with the tally at 22 wins to eight and there have been nine draws over the past 39 encounters. At Anfield Liverpool have won 12 to Fulham’s two and there have been five draws. But the Cottagers are three unbeaten against the Merseyside giants, drawing 2-2 at Anfield last term and winning 3-2 in West London, and the two sides played out a 2-2 draw again at the Cottage in January.
Both teams have won three, drawn one and lost two of their last six league games, though Fulham have won two of their last three while Liverpool have picked up a single point from their last three. Let’s see what the latest Liverpool vs Fulham betting odds say about that.
Betting Tip
Well, Slot’s men are hot favourites to take all three points at SBOTOP odds of 1.63, with Fulham at 4.75, and the draw at 3.20. But the pressure is truly on the hosts and they meet a Cottagers side which has had a nice breather in the run-in to the end of the campaign.
I have a sneaky feeling we’ll see another goal-laden draw, so I’m going to back my instinct for a long odds result.
